A milestone moment for North Cumbria has arrived this week as the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine officially welcomed its first cohort of medical students.

A first of its kind graduate-entry collaboration between the University of Cumbria and Imperial College London will see the launch of the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM).  Located at the University of Cumbria Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle, the School will welcomed its inaugural cohort of 58 students on 26 August.

The new medical school is designed to train the next generation of doctors closer to the communities they will hopefully go on to serve. By embedding learning in the heart of the region, the school is set to open up new opportunities for aspiring clinicians, create stronger links between education and practice, and play a vital role in the future recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals in Cumbria.

To mark the occasion, the latest episode of the 20 Minute Clinic podcast, hosted by North Cumbria GP Dr Amit Paik, features an insightful conversation with Professor Mary Morrell about the vision behind the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine and the exciting opportunities it represents for the region.
