What is an ISVA? (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor)

It is recognised that Childhood Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence can have a severe impact on psychological, emotional and physical wellbeing.

An Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) is a trained professional who provides free, non-judgemental, confidential specialist tailored support to victim survivors who have been sexually assaulted at any time in their life.

You can have ISVA support regardless of whether you have reported the sexual assault to police or not. ISVAs are independent from the police. In Cumbria, we support adult women and also, have a male worker who supports men.

We also have specialist CHISVAs that support children & young people from the age of five years to eighteen years.

Are you a victim or survivor of sexual violence? Our ISVAs can provide advocacy and non-therapeutic support to you.

You do not have to have reported the crime to police to receive support. It can be difficult to talk about what has happened and many people find it easier at first to speak to someone outside of their circle of family and friends. We’re here to help you in this difficult time. You can call us weeks, months or even years after a crime. We are always here to listen and help.
