As Halloween approaches, we want to remind everyone that there’s nothing to be afraid of when it comes to looking after your health this season. Your local pharmacists are trained healthcare professionals ready to support you and help you stay well.

This time of year, many people are stocking up their medicine cabinets with essentials to be prepared for seasonal coughs, sore throats, and common winter ailments. Your pharmacy team can help you get what you need, and give advice on how best to use it.

Pharmacies can provide advice and treatments that don’t require a prescription for a wide range of common conditions. Many can also offer prescription medicines for certain conditions without needing a GP appointment, through the Pharmacy First service.

Conditions supported through Pharmacy First include:

  • Sore throat (aged 5+)

  • Earache (aged 1–17)

  • Urinary tract infections (women aged 16–64)

  • Impetigo (aged 1+)

  • Infected insect bites (aged 1+)

  • Sinusitis (aged 12+)

  • Shingles (aged 18+)

If your condition falls outside these age ranges, don’t worry — pharmacists can still provide advice on self-care (over-the-counter medicines) or guide you to a GP if needed.

Whether it’s stocking up for your medicine cabinet, seasonal coughs, sore throats, or common infections, your pharmacy team is here to give trusted guidance and treatment so you can stay healthy.

Remember: this Halloween, there’s nothing to be afraid of—your local pharmacy is here to help!
