In November 2025, BBC Radio Cumbria visited Carlisle Healthcare as part of a wider NHS winter focus, highlighting the pressures facing local health services during one of the busiest times of the year.
Broadcasting live from the Locke Road surgery site, the day explored how NHS and community teams across Cumbria prepare to support patients throughout winter, while also helping explain access, triage systems and the increasing demands on primary care services.
The coverage featured contributions from healthcare professionals across a range of roles, including Carlisle Healthcare Medical Director and GP Dr Robert Westgate, Advanced Clinical Practitioner Sarah Sewell, Pharmacist Scott Merrin and Social Prescriber Rachel Murdie, alongside patient perspectives and local community voices.
The visit offered a valuable insight into the realities of modern primary care and the collaborative work taking place behind the scenes to support patients during periods of exceptionally high demand.

A big thank you to BBC Radio Cumbria and everyone involved for helping shine a spotlight on primary care services and the teams supporting local communities throughout winter.
